February 20, 2009-Investigation at The Bartow-Pell Mansion, Bronx, New York. What a great, awesome place. Built between 1836 and 1842, the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum exemplifies a type of country living that existed in the Pelham Bay Park area in the early 19th century.
Dan Tisher, Mike Gustavson, Garrett Husveth and I arrived in the early evening for the first of what will hopefully be many investigations. We were met by the Education Manager of the site, Jennifer, and two of the museums tour guides. They gave us a quick tour and told us about some experiences that they have had. We did a lot of audio recording and shot about two hours of video in a room where the wooden shutters would unlatch themselves.
While the night was pretty quiet, there are a few interesting things things I can tell you about. One of the rooms that a lot of people get that, “creepy feeling,” in had amazingly high AC EMF. We know that it is possible for some people who are hypersensitive to high emf to experience the same type of things that are described by people who believe they are experiencing haunting phenomena. Dr.’s have been able to recreate haunting scenario’s, alien abduction and religious experiences by exposing some people to AC EMF. The high EMF could be coming from some unshielded wiring under the floor right outside this particular room and down the hall in both directions. The EMF in some places was as high as140 milligauss.
While Mike and I were in a large washroom (about the size of a NYC studio apartment) on the second floor recording a EVP session, we had our Natural EMF meter register a change in the natural electromagnetic field. It surprised us so we asked if there was anybody there beside us to stand next to, “the little blue box,” and it happened again, right on cue. What's interesting about this is that a natural EMF meter filters out all man-made (AC) electromagnetic fields. It will only register changes in the natural (DC) electromagnetic field. It reads the field and will only react to a change in that field. A couple of the possible explanations could be: an electrical storm passing by or someone moving close to the meter. It was a clear night and Mike and I were the only people in the room. Now, this doesn’t mean we thought that a spirit was in the room with us we just think it was a pretty cool thing to happen on an otherwise quiet night. I’ve had this meter for about 4 years and this is only the 3rd time it’s happened so either the natural EMF did indeed change with us in the room or I bought a crappy meter.
